Sheila Alston

Hi! I’m a wife and mother of three young adults and a serial entrepreneur. I have always loved creating and designing things and over the years have been a family and wedding photographer, interior designer, real estate agent, podcast host, author, and online marketer. My passions have culminated into the business I’ve been running for the last few years called HealthyHOME Media. I help real estate agents and home professionals grow their reach and provide more value to their clients and followers through my wellness lifestyle magazines that can be custom-branded and mailed to their client list or larger community. HealthyHOMEā„¢ Media is a custom publishing and marketing firm located in San Diego. Our brand offers a seamless integration of multi-channel and platform coverage, ranging from print to digital media. Our goal is to be the leading provider of wellness publications that cater to small businesses and empower real estate agents as community connectors. Hey! Thanks for taking the time to be here. Can you start by sharing a little bit about yourself and your family? *

Sure! My husband and I have three adult kids and a beagle named Penny. We are originally from Seattle, Washington but moved to San Diego in 2013. We love it here!

I love learning about how people began their career path because our stories are always so different. What was the inspiration or reason you decided to do what you do? *

It’s funny, I think that everything you do leads you to your true calling. You may not recognize it at first, but when you look back you’ll realize that all your ā€œjobsā€, your work, and life experience helped you grow into the professional you are today. That’s how I feel about my job now. I thought my passion was interior design and photography. Then I thought it was real estate, but now I realize that my gift is marketing and that I love helping real estate and home professionals grow their businesses. Having completed a certification as a Health Coach, and becoming a licensed REALTORĀ®, I was trying to figure out how I could stand out as an agent. I spent a lot of time wondering what kind of unique value I could provide my clients. As I tried to blend all my passions together I stumbled across wellness real estate that at the time was worth $150 Billion dollars. It’s now worth $450 Billion and is projected to double by 2028! To learn more, I created a podcast and just started interviewing forward thinking developers, agents and healthy home professionals. The work these people were doing was incredible and I couldn’t believe that more people weren’t talking about it. So I created a magazine called WellnessRE that teaches readers how to create a healthy home. It’s written by experts like biophilic and eco-designers, wellness architects, feng shui specialists, building biology advocates and more. We now have several magazines that agents can brand and use in their marketing to stand out and create more meaningful conversations that show their care.

What services do you offer? And why did you choose to offer those particular services? *

When we first started in 2020, we had a digital magazine called WellnessRE that agents could share with their email list and in their social media to facilitate more conversations about the trend of real estate development towards wellness. Since then we now have agent-branded mobile issues, done-for-you social media as well as direct mail marketing that gives REALTORSĀ® and even Healthy Home Professionals marketing materials that align with their brand and are all about wellness real estate / healthy home. The direct mail piece has also opened doors for local businesses to advertise and we connect them with agents who sponsor issues it becomes not only a great referral networking opportunity but a chance to reduce the cost of printing for agents so they can stop wasting money on postcards and instead send something that benefits readers and the local community.

If you could go back in time what advice would you give yourself? *

Stop taking score too soon, be kind to yourself, and trust that things will work out in the end. Don’t be afraid to pivot and last but not least listen to your heart more often than your head.

Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years? *

I hope I’m traveling in Europe for part of that time! LOL. I see myself helping agents and home professionals across the country and being able to say I helped them niche down and elevate their brand and they were able to get referrals and so many listings from the content that I created for them. That would make me so happy.

How do people reach you?

Well honestly if you Google search Wellness Real Estate you are bound to find either my podcast, my book, or my website which is www.HealthyHOMEmedia.com My email is sheila@healthyhomemedia.com

Sheila & Our Community

Ok, let's talk about our amazing community for a moment. What are a few of your local favorite spots? *

Hands down it’s Pacific Coast Grill in Cardiff, that’s our go-to nice restaurant. But I also love Javier’s at UTC, and Temaki Bar in Encinitas for sushi, and my fave fast places are Poki Wan, Cava, Mendocino Farms, Sweet Greens, and Tokaya all in Del Mar.

Who is the most interesting person you've met here? *

Hmm – I’ve met a lot of interesting people honestly, but I’d have to say Robin Colvey from Lifetime Water in Solana Beach is one of my favorite interesting people. She is so kind and full of positivity and has an amazing wellness center that she started from nothing. I like to call it the ā€œwatering holeā€ where I continue to meet the coolest most interesting people. Learn about Lifetime Waters by visiting: www.lifetimewatersb.com

What are some of your favorite books/documentaries/ or movies you think everyone should know about and why? *

Oh gosh ,I have so many but for sure if you are in marketing or you own a business, you must get Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller. I have it on Audible and the author reads it so I think it’s even better than reading the book. I would also recommend, Stress Less, Accomplish More by Emily Fletcher and if you want to learn more about wellness real estate then you can grab my book on Amazon or Audible! If you were trying to get a friend to move here, what would you tell them about our community? *

I love San Diego because not only is the weather sunny here, but the people are too. I’ve met so many kind and welcoming people who have become friends. It feels like a great melting pot of people from all over the country who come for the weather and are open to new friendships. It’s not like that everywhere. I feel blessed to live here.
